48th Highlanders
It has been said that a skilled pipe band is the pride of every highland regiment’s commanding officer, and from inception, the 48th Highlanders have had pipers present.
In today’s military the pipes and drums of the 48th have a more traditional role and includes both military and volunteer civilian members. The band has excelled in its duties, becoming world famous for their unique abilities.
The 48th played at the Toronto Maple Leafs opening hockey game in 1931. They have since become a fixture, first at the Maple Gardens and now in the Air Canada Centre, where they play for the opening hockey game each season.
At The Royal in 2012, the 48th Highlanders will offer a special Remembrance Day performance during the evening horse show. Don’t miss it!
