Where Learning is Alive!


The Royal offers dynamic and inter-active learning experiences with programs suitable for early education through post-secondary studies. Some programs require pre-booking to participate as space and timing is limited.

Learn to Draw Animals

Learn to Draw Animals is a returning drop-in Royal art educational program with a farm fresh theme. All materials are provided. Groups of up to 15 students are able to be accommodated.

Growing Chefs! Ontario

One day only. Pre-registration required. Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Want to learn to cook healthy food and make it look good at the same time? Growing Chefs! Ontario is offering a hands-on cooking demo and teaching the art of Plating. For Grades 4-6.

High-School Chef Competition:

One day only. Pre-registration required. Live cooking competition taking place on Monday November 6, 2017.

Learning at The Royal

Learning is great, but sometimes it's all about the fun! The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair has plenty of activities for kids and the youngster in you. Here's a few programs that are totally aimed at fun.

Farm To Table Discovery Zone

Over 14 Education Centres to explore and discover the story of Farm to Table. Find livestock experts in Education Centres for Bees, Llamas, Goats, Beef, Sheep, Crickets, and hen for eggs. Learn about food handling safety, urban gardening with aquaponics and create your own planter with recycled newspaper. Visit a greenhouse mobile farm and check how tall you are compared to some Ontario grown grain crops. Immerse yourself in virtual reality farms, be amazed with the butter sculptures and the giant vegetable displays. Check out the winning Jam, Jellies & Preserve, Honey and Canadian Maple Syrup, as well as the winning top cheeses and apples from Canada. Something new to see and learn in every turn in the Discovery Zone.

Your Cheeseburger's Journey (Grade 9+)

So where does your food come from anyway? From our fields to your forks, let's explore the anatomy of a common meal many of us know and love. Spend 30 minutes with Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture in a fun, get-out-of-your-seat session that will get you thinking differently about the food on your plates. This farm inspired play area is perfect for children full of energy. With lots of hands on activities including painting your own Breyer pony model, planting seeds and scavenger hunts, plus face painting, learning to draw animals and live shows, you’ll have a lot to keep your little ones engaged.




Pizza Pizza® Petting Farm

Get up close with the animals! You can touch, pet, and feed them. (Just not pizza). There are over 60 friendly animals wagging their tails and wiggling their ears, just waiting to see you.

With 14 education centres and the education ring, there are virtually no limits to what you could learn about food and agriculture. It doesn't matter if you're 9 or 99, there's literally something for everyone.
