The Toronto Police have had a full time unit since 1886. Since then, they have been riding horses and providing a visible presence of protection and community that continues today. The Royal has a special shared history with the mounted police, having sent eighteen of its best horses overseas for service with the 9th Canadian field Artillery, the Toronto Battery in 1914. The Royal welcomed police chief Bill Blair to open the 125th anniversary of the mounted police in Ricoh Coliseum at 1pm, Sunday November 13th, 2011. |
