Great food is in Gaurav’s blood. Having watched his uncle work at a luxury hotel in Mumbai, and helped his parents prepare feasts for special occasions and festivals, he knew from a young age that he wanted to work in an environment where he would be surrounded by tantalizing aromas all day long.
That early love of food and flavour led him to the Taj Group of Hotels in India, where he worked for six years, cooking across the country and learning various aspects of Indian and other cuisines. In search of gaining global experience, Gaurav arrived in Toronto, where he worked at Jump and O&B Café Grill while completing the Culinary Management Program at George Brown College. He has also enjoyed Sous Chef stints at Hockley Valley’s farm-to-table fine dining restaurant in Ontario’s countryside, Jamie’s Italian Yorkdale, and Sofia in Yorkville, before fulfilling his dream of joining the kitchen at Canoe and, most recently, Babel.
As the Chef de Cuisine at Shenanigans, Gaurav is eager to play his part in helping the restaurant industry get back on its feet after the challenging times brought on by the pandemic. As Ontario begins to recover, he hopes to provide Torontonians with a vibrant experience for friends and family to once again enjoy each other’s company while showcasing the best of pub fare — with, of course, some shenanigans infused.
