Attendees to this session will learn about food science, what it is and the types of careers you can have with a food science degree.
This is a live session that will start with a brief talk by Dr Lisa Duizer, Chair of the Food Science Department to give attendees an overview of food science and what a food scientist does. This will be followed by a discussion between Dr Duizer and a panel of students and graduates of the food science program to talk about their experiences with food science and what their degree has allowed them to do.
1:00pm: Finding a Place
in the Future of Food
When many people think about food and agriculture they see a farmer standing in a field. The truth, however, is that today’s food system is diverse, complex, and dynamic with many different roles from field through processing to retail and food service. Studying food and agribusiness provides the training to understand the whole system while taking a role in a specific link in the supply chain. Mike will talk about how the food system is changing and what it means for the types of jobs that will be available.
Thursday, November 4th
10:00am: High school students and educators are invited to join us virtually at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair’s Annual Education Symposium, hosted by the OAC Student Liaison Program. This two-part event includes a keynote talk and panel discussion about sustainability in the agri-food sector from multiple perspectives, including indigenous and western points of view.
