Meet the 2025 Royal Ambassador: Rosie

Rosie is a six-year-old miniature donkey with a big personality and a deeply loyal heart. As the first donkey ever chosen as The Royal’s Ambassador, she brings a fresh and unforgettable presence to this distinguished role, quickly winning hearts with her joyful brays, expressive nature, and unmistakable charm.

Known for her watchful instincts and strong bond with her big brother Teddy, Rosie is both a devoted companion and a gentle protector. She carries herself with quiet confidence, always aware of her surroundings and the animals she shares her world with.

Rosie calls a small farm in Oshawa home, where she lives alongside horses, ponies, chickens, and sheep. Under the care of her owner, Zuri Barnes, Rosie plays an important role in daily farm life, often acting as a barnyard guardian while remaining endlessly curious and engaging.

Her story reflects the very essence of the Royal, a celebration of connection, care, and the unique personalities that make agriculture so meaningful. Rosie’s presence as Ambassador offers a warm and welcoming introduction to the world of animals, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she meets

BECOME THE NEXT AMBASSADOR

To be named the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Animal Ambassador is to step into a role of distinction, tradition, and national pride.

Each year, one exceptional animal is selected to represent the very heart of Canadian agriculture and the enduring bond between humans and animals. This Ambassador becomes the living symbol of the Royal, carrying forward a legacy shaped by some of the most beloved and memorable figures in recent years including Turbo, Duke, Winston, Kay, and Rosie.

More than a title, the role is an honour bestowed upon an animal whose personality, presence, and story resonate far beyond the show ring. The Royal Ambassador connects audiences of all ages to the spirit of the fair, offering a warm and engaging window into the world of agriculture, animal care, and rural life.

From media appearances across the region to their celebrated presence throughout the 10 days of the fair, the Ambassador plays a vital role in welcoming guests, representing Canadian excellence, and bringing the Royal experience to life.

Steeped in tradition yet full of personality, the Royal Ambassador stands as a proud continuation of a legacy over a century in the making — a true champion of the country in the city.

Please note that all applications are thoughtfully reviewed, and finalists are carefully selected by the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Management Team through a considered evaluation process that reflects the values, standards, and legacy of the Royal.

The Royal Ambassador Program

From Kay the Sheep and Winston the Percheron Cross to Turbo the Goat and Lil’ Ben the Miniature Horse, and the rooster duo, The Royal Duke and his son, The Royal Roy, our ambassadors have always embodied the spirit and tradition of The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

The tradition of the Royal Ambassadors epitomizes the essence of “the country comes to the city.” Each year, we select animals that personify the best of rural life, bridging the gap between urban attendees and the agricultural heritage of our country. These ambassadors become celebrated celebrities at The Royal, capturing the hearts of visitors with their charisma and charm.

Ambassadors are chosen not only for their exceptional qualities but also for their ability to engage and delight the public. Their experience in being celebrated and interacting with people makes them perfect representatives of the Fair’s mission to educate and entertain. Our ambassadors captivate hearts and enrich the Fair with their playful antics and gentle presence.

As you walk through the fairgrounds this November, you’ll see our ambassadors interacting with visitors, embodying the spirit of the Fair. They represent the deep-rooted traditions and vibrant future of Canadian agriculture. Join us in celebrating these remarkable ambassadors and the legacy they uphold at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Their presence reminds us of the rich agricultural history that continues to thrive and inspire new generations.
